I was thinking about that too. Surely some of the prisoners must try to escape in such situations? I would hope so. I would try.

I should think enormous resources are deployed to make that impossible but I'd hope so too. I imagine there are at least a few who might be desperate enough to see it as a way out.

Yes, my sadness at the destruction in California is tempered by it being the richest place on earth and them not bothering to spend on the infrastructure to mitigate and prevent this. It is no longer exceptional there have been out of control wildfires there for the last 20 years or more.

Yep. While (from the little I've read) there seems to have been a particular set of conditions that exacerbated it, I think the real "exception" is that it's in actual LA, and rich people have had a taste.
I doubt they'll reconsider their lifestyles though, purely because I don't think they've got enough self-awareness or sense of responsibility to anyone except themselves.

one of the reasons it gets closer to LA every year is the droughts and lack of water up country because it is all being sucked into the city and its water avaricious plantations, almonds, oranges, grapes, advocados etc all need huge amounts of water pulled from the aquifers.

I imagine there are plenty of "ornamental" fountains floating around and they don't spare the sprinklers on their lawns, tennis courts and golf courses either 😡
