Not a week goes by without one billionaire or another thinking up a new and exciting addition to the list of ways we're going to hasten our extinction.

Yep. I latterly have come to see that they are not seeking billions but power, which it turns out you can buy if you have enough illions. I don’t know what to do about this idea. Maybe just call them fascists.

t@CdnCurmudgeon@mastodon.social The money buys the power, or in the case of long-established, inherited wealth, already *is* the power. After a certain point wealth that isn't inherited (Zuckwit for example) is only increased by exploitation and manipulation, and at that stage those with it are pulling the strings of the nominal power (governments). They might not *all* be fascists, but they're all evil and need to be destroyed (financially).

Fascist is as fascist does. Let’s broaden that definition.

That's oversimplifying (and what Godwin's Law is for!) - just shouting "fascist" isn't a good argument. Fascism is an ideology; greed is just greed, however extreme it is.

It’s true that I’m not suggesting we debate this point with them. Also this is just a bit of doom-y banter, but: to the extent that they are forcing their own philosophies and views on the rest of us they are fascistic. Which they do by controlling how we interact in the world, and through regulatory capture controlling the mechanisms by which our elected representatives might have controlled them; and in the US now by actually running the government.
