Who still thinks it is a coincidence? It's quite patronising and silly to think that people from the oldest known civilisations bordering the Mediterranean couldn't navigate their way around the oceans, or across the land. Really, it's just a hop, skip, and jump to the East Indies from Egypt, and not all that much of a hardship to sail & row across to Sth America...with galley slaves. Phoenicians were known to be explorers, as were Egyptians. Also, as others have said, step pyramids are a logical build for temples.

If you want to build big with primitive tech, a pyramid is the way to go.
