The questions should be "Why now?" and "What precipitated this demand?" It has seemingly come out of the blue, but coincidentally just after #LoneSkum visited England. Not a conspiracy, just his acquisitive nature, and his habit of buying compliance.

But, let me add another twist here.

The UK is a member of the 5 eyes group of intelligence sharing countries. So UK citizen's iPhone data will also be available to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US intelligence agencies.

This plan has been evolving in parliaments around the Globe, slowly, for years and no doubt, if the UK get away with it, will be introduced by the remaining member's in time.
