The New England Journal of Medicine published a report on the British Columbia case of #H5N1 (the teenager who was in hospital for nearly a month) yesterday (New Year's Eve) at 5:00pm.

It's quite a bit worse than what was reported in the news.

"respiratory failure, pneumonia in the left lower lobe, acute kidney injury, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia "
I watched lizzie_traveler_public on Instagram talking about the report. "Her immune system was pretty much trashed."

Wondering if the poor kiddo got through it without neurological damage.
I believe there was a news report that she'd been in a coma, so I'd expect some. But she's young, hasn't gone through neural pruning yet, so unless there's specific lesions I would be hopeful
Not just a coma. She was on ECMO for two weeks.
I saw this https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8911127/ early in the pandemic which said after ECMO due to COVID-19, "41% of patients died within the first three months, with the median time to death of 9 (1–87) days"

again, she's much younger than the average in that group, so keeping hope high
