If you are disabled, a friendship with you too often feels transactional to others who are abled.

You exchange your friendship with them. They exchange their friendship, plus the accommodations you need.

This feels uneven to them. You owe them. They are putting in extra effort and want to be compensated.

That is what it has felt like to me, anyway. I am too much effort with an unequal return on their investment.
