GA4 is a very different product from UA. the issue is mostly that UA will stop counting stats this weekend. it's installed on majority of sites online so millions of site owners will need to consider their situation. and they cannot even get their historical UA stats into GA4. for us it's a great opportunity to get more websites to use something better https://plausible.io/blog/universal-google-analytics-is-dead
Universal Google Analytics, the current version of Google Analytics, will stop counting stats on July 1st 2023. The new Google Analytics 4 will be replacing Universal Analytics.

Could you give me a super simple overview of why exactly this is such exciting news?

From what I understand, Universal Analytics is simply the previous version of Google Analytics 4.

Google Analytics will stop tracking stats on July 1st 2023 (and there’s no import to GA4)

GA4, if I get it right, will be just as snoopy, if not more so, but in a different way.
Am I getting that all roughly right?
