Tips for dealing with different timezones?

Every time I plan on an event in a different timezone I'm confused how to put it in my calendar.

#linux #thunderbird #gnome
Calendars seem to be @nekohayo great passion, and he'll no doubt be able to help you (or implement what's missing for the next cycle) 😛
how serious are you about this?!
so I found out that in the event panel, you can toggle "options -> show timezones" However the picker is quite nasty :/

haha, go you for trying.

I like the idea of some universal digital time, but I can't imagine it for IRL

Practically, UTC seems the best option for digital time - no?
yeah... I'm trying to figure out how to read/report bugs and it's exciting 🙃 Mozilla use mercurial for code, bugzilla for bugs and mail/matrix for chat... I'm in the #calendar:mozilla.org room now asking for help because too overwhelmed.
feels quite important to improve this bit!

-> remove optional showing, or at least have it on by default

-> have start and end time in the same time zone (I mean, do people ever want those in different time zones? 😖 )

-> have UTC timezones right at the top of the drop down

.... etc
I’m using the same “email stack”. I just make events in my local time. Invites I send to others get translated to their local time on their end. Most calendars are time zone aware so things just work. They wouldn’t be doing very good jobs as calendars if they didn’t understand time zones. Are you sure you aren’t imagining a problem where there isn’t one?
my case was: someone suggested a meeting at 9am Eastern time and I wanted to put it into Thunderbird. How would you deal with an analagous case?

I don't know the timezones off by heart, and don't want to learn them!
curious to know if you still think I was imaging the problem 🙃
@pintoch

found this issue about improving the thunderbird calendar timezones picker. 13 years old, but active again since last year

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=647632

big changes coming apparently: "dialogs and cramped pieces of UI will be nuked after 115" 👀
...and thunderbird beta is already at version 124. Very tempted to install...

hmm, installed beta as a snap... no obvious differences :(
Thanks for signing up for bugzilla and finding the bug! Following it is the best way to stay up to date on our progress - Calendar will be getting some needed love over the coming year, so thanks for being patient!

thanks for getting back Monica 😃 cool to know the thunderbird is not just broadcast.

Big appreciation for all the work you and team are doing.
Of course! We love putting our team's personality through here, and it's good to know the community appreciates it too.

And thanks for the thanks! It means more than you know. 😊 💙
