I've often wondered why they don't at least screen for ADHD when someone is referred for an autism assessment. It's so common to have both and it would streamline the referral process. Now there's a petition asking for exactly this: https://chng.it/5tt7GtCtMQ #ActuallyAutistic
I can't remember where I heard/read it but I'm under the impression that up until recently (the past decade or so), it wasn't possible to get diagnoses for both because the medical opinion was that autism & ADHD can't coexist - which is clearly not the case. If that's true, it wouldn't surprise me that the wheels of change turn slowly & it's only now being recognised as something that should be assessed as standard.
