After this General Cinema Corporation theater in the Randall Park Mall closed in 1993, it was forgotten behind a storage area for nearly two decades.

A long theater auditorium with rows of seats on either side. A shaft of light from a hole in the ceiling lances downward diagonally onto the seats.

Abandoned America hat dies geteilt

Indeed.

I love the aesthetic of abandoned buildings, the idea of exploring it, but I can't help but think: behind every little piece of furniture, fabric, plank, steel beam, and so on... there's a little story, a person had to harvest it or mine it, another person had to fabricate it, and then the people who used that to build the place...

Whether it's a 10yo building or a 200yo building, there was effort all the way through the production chain, and to then abandon it all because, what?, a few imaginary numbers don't go up? 🫤
basically, that sums it up.
Randall Park Mall was a fantastic and huge mall in the 1980s. I went there a couple times back in it's heyday.
I'm sure it was great in its heyday!
I wanna see Nicole Kidman make an AMC commercial here.
I have a recurring dream about finding a room like this in my house
sounds like a cool dream!
Ah, the Randall Park Mall gallery - it's one of my favorites 🤩 the podcast is really good, too!
thank you so much!
Boy, this has a “Well of Souls” (Indiana Jones ref) quality to it.
#movies
was that Last Crusade?
No…it’s the 1st movie…”Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
The “Map Room”…The Well of Souls…indicates where the Ark is buried…
W/a beam of light.⚒️
there is a TV show on Prime Video where the kidnapper hides a girl in such an abandoned theater.
I grew up in Cleveland and probably watched movies there as a kid. In fact, I think I could have watched Labyrinth or Never Ending Story in that very theatre.
oh, how cool! It would have been open at that time
Pretty much 100% chance I saw multiple films in that hall. The wall treatments are really familiar - or a trick of memory - who knows. Very, ghosts of history, feeling for me. Like a chilling nostalgia.
that's my favorite kind of nostalgia. The somewhat haunted kind
I can see that and why I love the stuff you post. It evokes a very unique feeling.
thank you very much!
Worked at one in high school. I remember those seats.
@AbandonedAmerica
me too. They're not that comfortable
I was going to say "not by modern standards" but not by any standards, really.
It is really incredible how many abandonded infrastructures and heritage have been lost overtime. It's such a pity!
I agree. They don't magically grow back either 😕
Humankind: Throwing away something that is not broken.
always. That is indeed us
Whenever I see places like this I wonder if we can just walk in and get building and crafting/making supplies there. I mean if they aren't wanted then why not? Looks like some of those chairs could be something.

unless you're on a demo or salvage crew it's a great way to catch burglary charges
I have mixed feelings about the ubiquity of temples to consumerism in my youth but I don't have mixed feelings about this photo: 100% banger.
thank you! I have mixed feelings about malls too but aesthetically they are a lot of fun
thanks for being there so I have someone to share them with!
