Who doesn't love a good abandoned power plant? Gould St. Power Station was built as a flagship plant during the public utility wars in Baltimore, a fascinating period in history.

Read about it here: https://www.abandonedamerica.us/gould-street-power-station
View of a three story turbine hall from above. In the center is a large turbine in front of high banks of windows along the walls.

Abandoned America hat dies geteilt

I mean, yes: someone's going to point out that abandoned power stations are terrible for the environment and that is 100% true. But also, they do look super cool.
well it's not like YOU built it ... :P
yes exactly but this is the internet and people love to "correct"
fair, fair :P haha
I was in love with Battersea PS in London, so I understand what you mean 😉
oh, I bet. That place was amazing
I love what they've done with the place, it's nice to see local youth chilling out and making it feel lived in. I like to observe the rich people and how they act as well, like a wildlife spot, seeing the various species at the water hole.

Mad to think a big old coal power station was chugging away right in the centre of London and people were like "this killer fog, it's just how London is"

#BatterseaPowerStation #London
right? I'm so glad they repurposed it and made it accessible
there's an big art gallery just down the South Bank, a Tate. Another station very similar to Battersea repurposed into a FABULOUS art space, enormous central hall perfect for all sorts of big ideas.
I have always wanted to visit the Tate for just that reason
then you will not be disappointed 😁
I’d love to visit it one day
I mean, better for it abandoned than operating.
yes, absolutely
Woo! It's the end of every low budget action movie in the mid-90s!
Very, very much so. I don't know how often this gallery of yours has scrolled past me the last couple of years, and I've clicked it every time. I'm a sucker for pictures of abandoned industrial plants like this.
me too. They're not generally as popular as other subjects but I find them so unique and interesting
Yes and some of them - abandoned power stations - have been fabulously repurposed, like Battersea, mentioned positively in responses. Industrial buildings have lots of scope for interesting repurposing, after mitigation & make-safe. Thanks for including them in what you collect & show.🙂
I've been really releived to see Philly seemingly doing the right thing (for once) by rehabbing Delaware River Generating Station https://www.abandonedamerica.us/delaware-river-generating-station
that’s a BEAUTIFUL shot
thank you! 😊
The only thing that makes them look better is shooting in black and white (or editing them to black and white).
meh, I like color
This is/was a beautiful art Deco style building. The Proper People explored this plant a few years ago. The tiles, the huge windows and that green color is classic style to showcase a community showpiece
would love to set my work desk there for a few days
bad Wi-Fi signal though, I'm guessing
tommy’s place in the last of us

I certainly love it
I swear I’ve seen this in The Last of Us
maybe it's reminding you of the part where you meet with Tommy in the first game? Different layout, though
I wonder if some of these places could be refurbished, retooled, reused?
I'm sure they could if folks with money had the will to do so
I'm not sure we can count on the folks with money to do anything but block this kind of thing.
every now and then someone with the means to do something has a good idea that gets some traction - Delaware River Generating Station in Philly is a refreshing example - but generally you are correct
Wow, those windows. And the room looks like it could be a level in a Cyan game. :)
I love games but am not familiar with Cyan. Are they a developer?
The folk who make Riven, Myst, etc.
ah! Okay, I could see that
I think I see batman
What is amazing here is that this was built for a purpose and served that purpose. You can almost imagine it with people still working there.
I wish there were more videos of things like that!
I agree with you there, have you ever thought of doing videos of these locations?
I have and I do shoot short videos periodically but the problem is finding the time when I'm also photographing. I wish I would have picked videos over photos years ago, I'll tell you that. But I do like photos better.
I know there are some professional cameras that can also shoot video. I met a professional camera man about 10 years ago and was impressed with the camera he had.
yes, mine would be fine for that, it's just managing the time for both. They both take a ton of time to do correctly
I understand that up until a little while ago I was doing live streams and just preparing for those on a weekly basis took a good amount of time.
