The Electronic Frontier Foundation will award Alexandra Elbakyan, founder of the 'pirate' library Sci-Hub, for her efforts to provide access to scientific knowledge.

Without Sci-Hub, many academics would be unable to complete their research projects.

#EFF also highlights that Elbakyan’s work helps to challenge the current academic publishing system, where researchers are used as unpaid workhorses.

And many non-academics would have no access to research, most of which is funded with public money.
She's the greatest
@zbender Cool! I just recently learned about this from a @radiolab podcast episode. https://radiolab.org/podcast/library-alexandra
Sci-Hub has just been so fundamental for any kind of research, academic or otherwise.

I certainly wouldn't be able to do my scientific communication outreach without it.

A well-deserved award for Elbakyan.
Nice! In case you want to sticker your support for Sci-Hub: https://post.lurk.org/@thgie/110765001862592141. Sorry for the shameless plug 😅
Hi Adrien
I created a label sheet using your images which I'd like to contribute to your project:

How can I get the source files to you, if you are interested?
Hi Nissa ✨ The easiest option would be to send me your sourcefiles and I add them as well as expanding the Readme with a text and attribution of your liking. There are more options if you feel comfortable with git. Thank you very much for your work
Her response to that was really weird and confusing. She got indignant and insulted that they were awarding her the award "on behalf of the sci-hub team", I guess she would argue there is no sci-hub team, it's just her.
