On January 7th, I was partway through unpacking, at the first house I've ever bought. Once I'd finished, I'd planned to make a simple post on here with a photo of my bike in front of the house, with the caption "Welcome home".

I never got to take that photo. But today I got to fly over Altadena, and see the state of the town. And return to my house (or its foundation), and my bike (or its frame).

Welcome home.

(I'm safe and staying with friends and wearing donated clothing.)
#EatonFire
An aerial view of a suburban area (it's Altadena, California). The town has been devastated by a disaster. Most buildings are in ruins. In the distance, a campus of industrial buildings (it's the Jet Propulsion Laboratory) stands not visibly damaged beside a dry riverbed.
A man (it's me) wears a long-sleeved shirt in burgundy, tan pants, work boots, heavy gloves, dark safety glasses, a hat, and a facemask. He stands in front of the charred, ruined remains of a house with other ruined houses in the background. In front of him, he holds the burned, ruined steel frame of a bicycle, its fenders still attached but the wheels and tires reduced to a few wires. It's a sunny day with blue skies.
