I predict there'll be no Trump bump for the business of journalism this time. Liberals, exhausted and downhearted, are too enraged at the #BrokenTimes, #BrokenPost, et ilk, which have shown they will obey rather than resist. What is the worth of news then?
I study the dying institution of mass media. They believe in their myth, that it is their manifest destiny to serve all. They tried not to offend those who would never read them and thus offended those who did: past tense. Fascists have their media; the rest of us do not.
Media like to complain about tech monopolies. With boot-licking Bezos' #BrokenPost on its death spiral, #BrokenCNN retreating behind its wall, we'll be left with #BrokenTimes monopoly (which harms local papers). The alternative: seedlings of independent news.
Because independent news is our only hope, that is why I battle against the hedge-fund- and mogul-owned news companies' lobbyists and their self-interested, protectionist legislation. We must support the future of journalism, not its past.
