I was followed by a Pixelfed account with no posts, no avatar photo, no bio. It may have been a human and entirely genuine but I blocked at once. In the recent rush to Pixelfed there are bound to be some bad actors slipping through the net.

I haven't uploaded mine yet either and I've followed many accounts. I need to get a bio in there, at least, until I can get a good pic or two!
@FediTips

This may be a wider problem. Established users appearing blank on Pixelfed but assuming that because they know who they are, everyone else does too 😊

Bio first, then explore.
Accounts can sometimes look blank even when they're not, due to the way federation works.

This is especially true of new accounts without any followers, which is exactly what you'd expect during an influx of new people.

To check what an account actually looks like, go to its profile page, click ... and then "open in browser" or "open original page" (or similar phrases). This will show the account on its own server, which is the fullest newest version.
Also, bear in mind blind people often don't use avatars at all because they use the internet through audio-based software. So, the lack of a profile image doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the account.

Also also, If you have a Mastodon account, you can prevent it ever looking blank to anyone by pinning posts on it:

Thanks. The account is still blank when looked at in the browser. It was created today, so no surprise that it doesn't have any posts.

I will watch it and unblock if a profile appears.
For what it's worth, the spammers I've seen on here have typically put up profile pictures. It's relatively rare that it's totally blank.
