Many of you have guessed correctly: today I want to talk to you about shoes in season 1 of #StarTrekTNG. No, not about Klingon boots but about those 80s jelly sandals ("Heart of Glory") that I remember wearing at the beach as a kid. They seem oddly out of place on a starship! 🧵 1/5

I found seven season 1 episodes of #StarTrekTNG ("Encounter at Farpoint", Hide and Q", "11001001", "When the Bough Breaks", "Coming of Age", "Heart of Glory", "We'll Always Have Paris") where those transparent jelly shoes are worn, exlusively by female civilians of all ages. 2/5

Those transparent jelly sandals were not only the height of fashion aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2364 in season 1 of #StarTrekTNG but were also terribly en vogue in 2342's Paris, as both Gabrielle and the flower vendor wear them at the Café des Artistes in "We'll Always Have Paris". 3/5

Here are some close-ups of the jelly sandals from various #StarTrekTNG season 1 episodes for all you 2364 civilian cosplayers! The shoes were likely store-bought en masse and then modified to hide the (anachronistic?) buckle under a square piece of silver material. 4/5

After season 1 of #StarTrekTNG, those transparent civilian jelly sandals went the way of the Tribble and were not brought back for season 2 or later seasons of #TNG. The next time you watch a season 1 episode, be on the lookout for those classic 1980s/2340s/2360s shoes! 😜 5/5

Your attention to detail is inspiring!
