The problem I had with "Be as couragous as you can" is that it lets people proclaim "What, me? I'm just not couragous. That's a job for someone else".

I'm not sure what to think about that, honestly. I think it's reasonable for him to conclude that he is, or will become, a target for the far right in the US.

Maybe he thinks he can be more effective at a distance where he can't be easily silenced.
