A letter comparing the political entity that shaped Israel in the early days and gave birth to the ruling likud party to the nazis was written to the editors of the New York Times Dec. 2, 1948 – only months after the Declaration of the establishment of the state of Israel.

The letter was signed by Albert Einstein, Hannah Arendt, Sidney Hook, Jessurun Cardozo, Zellig Harris, Bruria Kaufman, Irma Lindheim, Seymour Melman, Fritz Rohrlich, Stefan Wolpe, and others.
