I'll get to your replies shortly,.

It's been a very long day.

We should have been home 4-5 hours ago.

Saw a young man, broken down on a long isolated section of the highway. It's rural Halifax; No Cell towers there!
Can't call for help, or tell his wife.
He'd have been there all night. #THREAD
#THREAD My my wife waiting in the van, we located a large hole in the monster tires he had. He had a small temporary spare, unsuited to match the other really wide tires. The last garage was in Sheet Harbour, 33 kms back. I saw my cousin was home when I passed, 15 kms ago. He had a plug kit & Air Pig (tank)
A regular sized 4x4 truck has a flat tire. It has pulled over to the gravel shoulder of an isolated highway. A small passenger van stops to lend assistance
He had heard something puncture his tires & it went down fast. He was trying to flag down help, and each 4x4 like his, slowed and went by without stopping.
When did people stop helping others in need?

He was expecting someone to stop ,but I was the only one that did.
We still had to go 35 kms back to Sheet Harbour to fill the tank. And he purchased a newer plug kit in case the ones my cousin had, were no good. They were stored in the cold and the adhesive cement was questionable.
I was up since 4am, I'm pretty good with long drives but when it gets dark (and it was wet) , I'm burned out. I still had to drive 33 kms back to Sheet Harbour to fill the Air Pig (Tank) to 200 lbs. I told my cousin I would personally drive back to return it when complete. And we went back to truck
And when we got back, this finger sized hole need two plugs and took a sledge hammer to drive it in to these deep tread monster tires. We had plenty of time to talk, an hour back and forth driving, and out in the cold helping him. It was getting dark too, hard to see, & I heard his story
He is a young fisherman, young family, $550k invested in his lobster boat, $20K bait, $20k Salary per crewman. Licence fees, and far more. He won't make any money for about 20 years, before the ROI on his investment starts paying out.
His boat is right at the end of Halifax, 5 kms past my house.
His truck, nice looking and expensive, wasn't new, but cost a lot of money. He was in debt for everything. His transmission had just been replaced $6500. He'd run out of Line of Credit.

He's going to sail with the fleet in Yarmouth tomorrow, to make some money. He had to go to Truro first
It costs me nearly a tank of gas both ways when I go to my rural home. I'd just put $100 gas in before we left, and we put another 100+ kms back and forth getting what we needed to fix him up. He wanted to give me money for gas, but before I knew how broke he was, I wouldn't take any. ESPECIALLY NOW
wow it was so good of you to help him out!! I'm very sure it meant a lot to him and now he can safely get to his work and make some well needed money. Thank you for sharing and caring! :ablobcatheartsqueeze:
He's still driving. he had 5 more hours past where I rescued him, I still had to go back and return the borrowed tank, then come back again and continue to town. BURNED a lot of gas, but worth it
it was definitely worth it and I'm sure he'll always remember the stranger that rescued him when he was stranded in the middle of nowhere! :pandaheart:
He will. He was feeling like he was using me, we were tired and we had a drive ahead of us, but I was the only one that would help him, it had to be done. His livelihood is on the ocean, and it leaves before daylight tomorrow.
Without a break down ,he had one stop to make. Without stopping, it's a five hour drive, he's 455 kms from home where his own boat is. (283 miles) he'll feel as old as me, when the boat leaves harbour on the other end of the province
wow that's quite a stretch. I hope he can make it safely and be in time to get to the boat.
You're right and I guess that if you had not helped, you'd be feeling a lot worse now. It will definitely have saved him in different ways and that's always a good reason to offer help when you can. 😊
KARMA has repaid me many times in the past for my charitable help.
It used to be, your neighbour helped you and you helped them no money changes hands.
But now, we're different cultures, too many conservatives *rural votes conservative* The Love is gone, sadly, But if I think a minute, I can name dozens more LIKE THIS, that I do regularly
