More evidence of who exactly Rachel Reeves is listening to, when (re)formulating policies.... and if I tell you its investment firm Blackstone's CEO, who made representations about NonDoms interests right before the 'crack down' on NonDoms was softened, would you be shocked? Sadly, its all too predictable.

No doubt he'll have been whispering to her about those benefits scroungers & disabled people robbing the benefits system, too

The EU wouldn't let him be boss, cos of Brexit? Or is it Muskmoney buying Starmer? @ChrisMayLA6
Are there any conditions under which the UK can force another election?

A lot of groundwork is still necessary, but I think the people of the UK have to move rapidly to reach the conclusion that neoliberalism and anyone who is affiliated with the United States at this point is compromised material. It’s natural national death to be in a light in league with the United States and especially its billionaires.

I think we are stuck with this government for five years, unless something extraordinary happens. A massive upheaval within that ruling party perhaps so Starmer decides to call an early election. Perhaps the other two tagged here know more?
I am rather shaky on the details of the installation of Winston Churchill for the duration of the war, but I seem to recall he was a man for the moment, and the British government worked to put that person in charge. When the war was over, he was retired.

It remains to be seen if the UK has retained that capacity
err... no at the end of WW2 Chruchill lost an election (he was only 'retired' in the sense his Govt. lots to Labour).... and then won the next one for Churchill to have a second term
that's what i was trying to convey. I had remembered a commentary that said in effect that his kind of leadership was no longer popular after the war.

(ie very skimpy historical grasp on my part)
It wasn't even popular *during* the war in some parts of (working class) London
Churchill was a "front man" during WWII. He didn't retire. He lost the 1945 GE.

Attlee ran the country during WWII.

Attlee ensured that the country was fed.

Attlee ensured that the armed forces had munitions.

Attlee won the 1945 election and transformed the UK after it was bankrupted by WWII.

Attlee's government created the NHS, nationalised industry, revamped welfare, education, and the economy, and built > 1 million council houses
