The Institute for Government's Whitehall Monitor for 2024 is out & shows over the period of the Tory Govt. there was an initial reduction in civil service number but by the end of their decade & a half in power, the civil service was bigger than when they took power; so much for the party of 'small government'.

The IfG also have some observations on how the civil service will need to be re-engineered to deliver on Labour's new 'mission centred' policies.
