Mitigated one power outage/disaster issue. Sink screen, to prevent food bits from clogging up kitchen sink when disposal not functioning. Better to use this all the time anyway. #DisasterPreparedness
Siny sink screen with tiny holes for water but not food bits, in a sink

The LomaPrieta quake was cruel. It tossed all the clean dishes out of the cupboard and left the dirty ones in the sink unscathed. 😪
No gas or water for over a week, and worse... I was buying coffee BEANS for an ELECTRIC grinder. I admit it. Addict. I put the beans in a clean sock, and beat them into SOMETHING LIKE powder 🤣
You know that if you slow boil the whole beans for a bit longer than brewing ground coffee, then screen them out and serve the coffee you get South Mexico coffee growers' coffee. Boil is not a correct term, you want hot but not too hot water to make good coffee. High temp. kills the flavor.

Really? I'll have to try it!
That sounds interesting. Whole beans Low temp for a long time... What I made is ofen called "Cowboy coffee". The particulates sink as it cools anyway. Turkish (spiced) coffee has the grounds left in too.
If you are having eggs for breakfast, throwing eggshells in with the Cowboy coffee accelerates that process. It's like magic!
I remember in aquaponics people used egg shells to balance Ph but can't remember which side. Knowing that coffee can get acidic I suspect the acid reacts with calcium in shells?

@ai6yr @heretical_i
It binds to the proteins in the white that is still on the shells and sinks rapidly
I remember that from one of Bradford Angier's woodcraft books. He also mentioned "isinglass" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isinglass ... but that sounds seriously unappetizing @yianiris
Isinglass is a fining that has an application in beer brewing. it's used to clarify the beer after fermentation.

You can also get a hand crank grinder,mortar and pestle, rolling pin, or use batteries or a generator to power the grinder.
I do appreciate the sock idea.
sounds like a job for.... Induction!
