There was a curious thing that happened with a reply I had which kept disappearing whenever I clicked on it to open it to see the thread.

I would get an error message, but also the mention in my notifications would disappear.

If I reload or click around a bit, it would return.

So my question is, which gremlin did it?

I would try to clear the cache to see but the reply was only some weirdo saying something that the article I shared wasn't about, so I'm not bothered with it doing its disappearing act.

it's possible that the poster was removing the message shortly after posting and/or was being moderated and the timing messed things up in the timeline

Yeah, I think maybe it had been deleted and redrafted or something. So when I click to read the thread, it was broken, but the mention is still there.

Mastodon has always been a bit clunky.
