à propos of Mary Poppins, I made a bunch of Lynch/MP crossover memes for Dune Sietchposting, maybe I should post them here too

The scene of uncle Albert in Mary Poppins, but the text is from David Lynch's Dune when the baron explains his plan to Feyd and Rabban.

(first panel) Uncle Albert says "I won't tell you who the traitor is, or when we'll attack."
(second panel) Uncle Albert is now laughing and continues "However, the Duke will die before these eyes and he'll know... He'll know, that is I, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen who encompasses his doom!"
(third panel) Uncle Albert is flying and laughs. A caption at the bottom of the panel says "ominous music"

Yes, post them!
the Baron and Piter de Vries discuss the plan to crush the Atreides and informs his nephews - Feyd and Rabban - about it.

I'm way too proud of this one.

9 stills from Mary Poppins, with Mr. and Mrs. banks discussing hiring a baby sitter, plus three more stills of Mrs. banks singing with Ellen and Clara. However each picture has quotes from David Lynch's Dune, covering the scene in which Piter de Vries informs the baron of duke Leto's response, and the baron calls for his nephews to explain his plan against the Atreides. Mr. Banks has the role of the Baron, Mrs. Banks does Peter de Vries, Ellen and Clara are Feyd and Rabban.

Dune and Marry Poppins are basically the same film, aren't they?
I must admit they're pretty close. I can definitely adapt more scenes if I put myself to it.
Stilgar appears, bringing Chani and Jamis along

Two stills from Dick Van Dyke singing in the movie Mary Poppins. In the first panel he's holding the children and singing: Frem- fremeny frem- fremeny Lisan al Gaib

And in the second one he's alone and keeps singing: No crysknify unblooded if we're led by Muad'Dib
I just remembered that besides Mary Poppins I made several more idiotic Dune crossovers.

The way I read the book, the Baron is presented as utterly loathsome and the Duke as noble. Then the plot is finding out that they’re pretty much the same.
Leto comes across noble but I don't think the Baron is Darth Vader evil. He's an old fashioned bad guy in a world of mentats and Bene Gesserits.

Paul however is a bit of an enigma ...
I agree with your blog here, and I'm wondering how much of this is an underestimation of viewers vs readers, that the assumption of viewers and especially more recently the new obsession with things being "second screen ready" leads to caricature-like visible-without-context clues to "sides". It is a shame though.
All the Dune adaptations were made after Star Wars and I wonder if that has influenced all of them.

One thing I noticed when watching the TV adaptation was how much technology there was at the beginning. Dune isn't really about technology, so it just seemed wrong to me.

But either they feel the need to do good side/bad side for the audience, or they don't really understand the novel.
