Russia still has a LOT of weapons in Syria after Syrian dictator Assad was overthrown by HTS, the rebels.
The rebels generally hate Russia. Russia bombed Syrians using chemical warfare (war crimes).
Russia used to refer to HTS as terrorists, but is now making overtures to HTS, calling them opposition.
So there is this weird vacuum in Syria where Russia is trying to withdraw it weapons, and HTS is doing nothing. I thought HTS might take control of russian bases. What is going on?
