TIL Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't allowed to dub his own role in Terminator in German, as his accent is considered very rural by German/Austrian standards and it would be too ridiculous to have a death machine from the future come back in time and sound like a hillbilly.

as a German growing up in the 80s it was even worse: I only learned in the late 2000s, why everybody in the US was mocking Schwarzenegger for his voice because I have never heard his actual voice before.

Suddenly, it all made sense. It became his trademark though.
There actually was a German #comedy show that turned the idea of a hyper-futuristic cyborg speaking Austrian dialect into a sketch.

Heeeere's the #Bullyparade's #Terminator sketch:

Arnie has lived in the United States for more than 50 years. But even from his English I (as a German) can still tell he is Austrian.
IIRC, he actually doesn't speak German in public because he's self-conscious about his accent and/or dialect (and/or the atrophy of his German language skills, I don't remember exactly).
