My son's friend is Chinese American - born and bred in NYC. He travels for work and is becoming increasingly alarmed due to increasing in-your-face threats and taunts to "go back where came from". He is worried for his family's safety.

People we know are talking about leaving the US due to fears. We are not very comfortable ourselves although luckily we're in a blue state.

My wife and I are older folks and we're trying to determine what we can do to help to resist this. We're not going to our graves hiding or running away.

We need a strong #resistance.
This is a good reason to carry mace, regardless of any city or state laws about it. Most attackers won't keep coming after a faceful of mace.

If groups of attackers become an issue, the big bear mace cans are effective due to the wide and heavy spray pattern.

Normal cans of mace vary in range, the best will reach out to about ten feet but hitting something useful at that range requires some practice. Make sure the mace you buy contains dye, this makes correcting your aim a lot easier. Test fire every can you have, know both the range and how wide the pattern is.

The gel is good up close where the risk of being affected yourself is the worst, but the price is reduced range and a pinpoint stream pattern on at least some cans.

Never fire upwind, maneuver to put your opponents crosswind or downwind instead. That goes double with bear mace or anything else giving a wide spray pattern full of droplets
