HTS ordered Palestinian resistance groups in Syria to "dissolve their military formations as soon as possible"
"Palestinians [factions] are prohibited from using Syria as a headquarters or passage for any activity against Israel"
HTS stated that "Israel may seek to force the Lebanese government to take similar actions against Palestinian factions in the refugee camps in Lebanon"
HTS totally aligned with Israel. Assad had to go.

This is why I cannot comprehend how pro-Palestine people celebrate Assad's demise in favour of US backed al-Qaeda, al-Nusra HTS. Bonkers? Uninformed? Blind?
@palestine
This has turned into a real hornet's nest politically as well as militarily.

From where I sit, I see it as critical to separate support for the liberation of Assad's prisons (maybe the one good thing that came out of this) from support for HTS, which by siding with Israel against Palestine has shown themselves to be traitors to the Arab people as well as being theocrats. If you support the right of the people of Syria not to be tortured to death in prison, the fight between Assad and HTS is a fight between enemies.

From what this looks like from halfway around the world, this looks like replacing Biden AKA "Genocide Joe" with Trump. If anyone speaking from inside Syria has a better comparison I'm all ears.

Add one factor: Suppose on Nov 7 the Trumpers had stormed every US prison, freeing all 2 million prisoners in the US to get back their own J6 prisoners. Leave out the state vs federal prison difference for this comparison. That could never make me support Trump and his racist, theocratic agenda that threatens my own life.

I still would cheer the destruction of the prisons so long as those MAGA meatheads didn't execute instead of release the non-J6 prisoners. This would be the broken clock that is right twice a day.

I hope HTS doesn't reopen Assad's prisons or copy them in new buildings. Assad's prisons were reported to be so bad that people forgot their own names after years of literally being confined in darkness, taken out only for torture sessions. The other worry is that HTS might not need Assad's prisons due to preferential use of mass executions at an even higher pace than Assad. Look for an increase in imports of rope if matters get to that level.

For HTS to leverage the IOF as their sword and bow was as disgusting as it would have been for anyone in the US to ally themselves with Daesh against any of the governments here,

Well, Netanyahu is a theocrat too, trying to turn Israel into a Jewish version of Daesh. Trump wants to turn the US into "Christian State." It thus stands to reason that the US, Israel, and HTS work together as they all share the same goals: theocratic states without Palestinians,
@palestine

I hear you. I agree with freeing political prisoners, i.e. dissidents. I'd be very cautious releasing ex ISIS (or other takfiri factions) into society. I'd be very cautious releasing criminals without vetting what they got sentenced for.
As for torture camps, how about the Israeli prisons? Palestinian prisoners tortured for decades, tortured to death in cases. Where's the outrage?
How about Guantanamo or many more states prisons where torture is routine.

@palestine Where is the outrage? People here in the US are facing witch-hunts, expulsion from schools and deportation for protesting for Palestine. We are facing a campaign of criminalization that began under Biden and is forecast to get worse under Trump.

The ruling class has chosen to go all-in with the IOF. I can protest because I am not deportable, already not employable anyway, not a student, and apparently considered a difficult target by police. Also with the results of election people must now prepare for their own defense. Thus we can't turn out the big 1,000 person protests every week like in Oct-Dec 2023 anymore, and we've only been able to take a very few campuses with new (and usually short-lived) tent city occupations.

On the other hand, groups like Palestine Action take a lot less extra risk for escalating to underground direct action than would have been the case in the absence of the witch-hunts. They understand the need to "buy" solid, effective action with that kind of risk. Even more useful to put the clean room at an Elbit plant out of action with a handful of dust than to burn the plant manager's car.

When Netanyahu showed up in DC on July 24, 2024, I was there for the "not welcome" party that started with blocking his motorcade's potential routes and ended in the US flags at Union Station being pulled down and burned over flaming Israeli flags. They were replaced with Palestinian flags.

Fascist Senator Ted Cruz is now holding hearings into "Park Service Failures With Pro-Hamas Riot at Union Station" since the cops were defeated in their attempt to mass arrest their way out of the flagpoles action. Supposedly we had the Park Police outnumbered 200-1! We were actually able to chase them away after they had only taken a handful of prisoners.

As for Gitmo, we've been trying to get it closed since it was opened. Most Americans though don't give a shit about the rest of the world until it comes and bites them on the ass.

The US has indeed become a nation of prisons, with more prisoners than China, an open police state witt five times the population.

Sorry, I was quite vague. I know students and people from all walks of life have been consistently protesting, me included, and you're right, it has become dangerous to protest against Israel / Zionists. We've seen a number of journalists arrested under the terrorist act in UK simply for reporting facts about Israel.

The mainstream media, including left leaning outlets, have made a song and dance about the fall of Assad but not said much or downright covered up Israelis war crimes. I keep asking people to abandon mainstream media, let them decline. Their coverage's not worth the paper it's written on
It's up to us to hit them where it hurts.

@palestine Well, the Washington Post is still good for paper-training puppies I suppose...
