Whaaat? TIL that Gandalf had one of the three elven rings of power the whole time he was in Middle Earth!

Narya, given to him by Cirdan the shipbuilder when he arrived.

I've read LOTR several times, but never picked up on that tidbit before, and it explains how Gandalf was able to do some of what he could do.

gandalf the white holding staff and wearing a gold ring with a large red stone: "Gandalf now wore opening on his hand the third ring Narya the Great and the stone upon it was red as fire."

Gandalf was both a demigod (Maia) and a ringbearer. Potentially able to rival Sauron, but unwilling to challenge him directly, stoop to deceit or let ends justify the means. His mission was to inspire the free peoples of Middle Earth to defeat the dark lord themselves, and in that, he was the only Wizard that fully succeeded.
And he had time for hobbits!
I feel like Bilbo and his front door might have a thing or two to say about Gandalf not stooping to deceit. 🤣
I feel like I knew this at one point but had since forgotten it. I thought Cirdan had it through the whole of the Third Age.
I was blown away to see there's an actual line about it in the book. Can't believe I missed it!
