Recipe calls for sherry. I don’t have sherry (never have), or any suitable subs, so I nipped to the costcutter thinking a dry white wine would do. They had sherry so I now have sherry…for cooking purposes. I am becoming my mum.

"Cooking sherry" uh? Slippery slope...
my thoughts too 😂. Memories of raiding the drinks cupboard as a teenager too.
100%. Staying with mum for a couple of nights and was just eyeing up the amontillado bottle in the back of the old sideboard! Memories…
I love sherry! Lots of hip sherry and vermouth places around at the moment.
Interesting, I am so out of touch with modern street life 😀

Also, sherry cask whisky which is insanely popular!
for very good reason 😀😀😀
Sherry is 'in' at the moment if it is any consolation. Lots of good restaurants recommending it as an alternative to traditional dessert wines.
pedro ximenez - PX - can be utterly delicious. Some dry sherries well worth sticking in the fridge too!
I'm a bit bored of traditional pudding wines so had this Wine Society offering over Christmas. Very nice with the chocolate roulade.

there’s a whole other thread waiting there on the Wine Society. I can’t work out if my initial membership day was the best or worst day of my life…
