"The failure of the Lebanese government to protect against Israeli attacks is leading Lebanon down two roads: either Hezbollah will re-enter the war in defense of the Lebanese people, or the government will prevail and content itself to sit back"
"The ceasefire doesn’t exist for South Lebanon, and it doesn’t exist for the people of the suburb. Where any of our people exist, Israel sees a target.”

@palestine @lebanon One of the problems is Lebanon's Air Force doesn't have any fighter jets, and Hezbollah doesn't have any either. I suspect they are also short on air defense missiles and anti-aircraft artillery for point defense.

The most practical way to build a defense force now against air raids would probably be to combine a strong surface to air missile (SAM) force with air defense drones to handle areas not protected by SAMs or attackers that get past the missiles. It might be possible for Lebanon to request missile support from Yemen to knock out IOF air bases from which the air raids originate.

The days of climbing into fighter jets to stop enemy bombers are mostly but not entirely behind us. The most effective way to destroy enemy bombers is not IN the air but FROM the air, using your fighters as bombers themselves. Drones and cruise missiles can of course do this too and probably a lot cheaper. Also drones don't put your pilots at risk as their controllers stay on the ground in your own territory.
