Said hello to lots of animal friends on my walk today, including these herdies. Not sure about the watcher on the hill, but have consulted my new ‘British Sheep Breeds’ tote bag (thanks Santa) and maybe a Lleyn.

Photo of a herdwick ram in a field. He has shaggy, light grey-brown fleece, stocky legs and a pair of curved horns.
Photo of a herdwick ewe with darker grey fleece and a sweet white face (herdies always look to be smiling).
Photo of a shaggy-ish white sheep standing on the brow of a hill against a clear blue sky. She is staring down at the camera. A big old tree, winter bare stands to the right, thankfully not a victim of the recent storms.
Some even let me boop their snoots! The footpath went through a field with these horses. They were super friendly and came straight over, though the younger (dark) one almost took me out when they couldn’t stop on the slippy ground. We had a safer chat over the gate.

Photo of a pale brown horse with a reddish brown mane peering over the top rail of a wooden field gate. There are trees in the background and a clear blue sky above.
Photo of a dark grey horse with its nose over the same gate. The bottom of the pale horse to the left.
A small herd of highland cattle were in a field next to the path, but the youngsters ran over to the gate and egged each other on for a nose boop. The adults looked indifferent.
