I've just done a piece on the first commercial wind turbine ever built (in Denmark 1978), which went ahead despite all the experts saying it wouldn't and couldn't work. Only it did, and is still working.

It made me optimistic: the share of wind and solar in total global electricity production has risen by 20% per annum compound since 2003. At that growth rate, they'll reach 80% by 2034. We will have broken the back of rising emissions.
