Mounting Death Toll!

The death toll of the horrible earthquake in Myanmar has reached 1,644 people. 3,408 more are injured - these are the most recent numbers.

Rescue works continued overnight despite multiple aftershocks. The number of dead and injured could rise as the rubble is removed.

Deepest condolences to all the victims and everyone affected by this tragedy.

How do you come to that conclusion?

The artefacts seem to be more a quality / file size issue. The whole vid is just 8.8 mb in size.

I think it's way easier to fly around with a drone than to even bother making an AI vid.

If anyone cares, I'm putting a screenshot here for a reverse picture search.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm still not convinced.
This is a 10 sec vid in a file size smaller than a word document.

I find it absolutely plausible for people to not be moving for 10 seconds. Especially when they are only tiny dark spots.

Twitter on the other hand is a disinformation bullshit platform that I don't trust shit.
ok, I watched the original 15 sec video on Twitter now, and I think I get the problem:

It seems that someone took an authentic drone video - played it in slo-mo and put a more dramatic fire in the background before publishing it.

Can see why some people question the whole video as result.

literally none of the human figures are moving as the camera moves... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujb0h6Qo0MY
Yeah, as I wrote - the fire in the background is in all likelyhood fake, and the drone footage is played slower.

Still I think that the damage shown (minus the fire) is authentic.

The video though IS compromised (even though it likely is not a complete fake) and shouldn't be used for journalistic purposes.
never mind it's showing damage uncorrelated with anything else seen yet
🤔 maby another (older) quake somewhere else

I'm having trouble reading the letters at the house in front left - but it doesn't seem to be thai

the video sucks 4 sure

Can we stop acting news sources that publish material that has been significantly altered are better because they're here and not on Twitter?
Nobody did that.

I don't know why you are saying this.
to clarify this some more:

I said #Twitter is a #disinformation platform that can't be trusted

that doesn't mean that every account there is lying

but "because someone on twitter said so" is a non-argument for me

if the info of that "someone" proves to be correct I'm adjusting my opinion, twitter or not

if disinformation is spread on #Mastodon it is still disinformation & will be called out eventually

by a community

whereas in twitter there's a lying AI
grok on twitter answers to the question if the video is real or not:

"The video likely isn’t AI-generated. The 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2025, was real, causing 140+ deaths and widespread damage. It’s probably from "the_360_report" on TikTok, showing genuine footage, as no reports suggest fake content tied to this event. Verification’s tricky without direct access, though."

yeah, no, that video is junk

The perfectly motionless people, the strange window shapes, the strange perspective that's just not quite right, the fact that a "very hot from the presses video" contains dramatic background music.
I'd concur, this is probably AI-generated, and the fact that @Free_Press doesn't cite any source for it doesn't really increase me trust.
