#OnThisDay, 18 Dec 2007, Yulia Tymoshenko narrowly won the Ukrainian Parliament's backing to return as Prime Minister.

She had co-led Ukraine’s 'Orange Revolution' in 2004-05, and held strong pro-EU views. In 2009, as Ukraine’s PM, she had to negotiate with Putin after Russia switched off the gas supply to the country. Tymoshenko was then imprisoned between 2011 and 2014, during Viktor Yanukovych’s presidency, in what was seen as a politically motivated case.
