In the small amount I did sleep last night, I dreamt about buying Spike Milligan’s war memoirs, most of which I read when I was a teenager. It being #WorldBookDay and all, I think I will buy one of the books, from an indie source.
Ok I bought all seven of them second-hand from Oxfam, which is not exactly helping indie booksellers but nor is it Amazon. I will remember that I owe my local bookshop a favour.
I did look at Bookshop.org for the Milligan books but I felt they cost too much, £11 for each paperback. I got the lot for 25 nicker instead.

In reality the kids were not asked to come in wearing costume this year, just to dress cosy. I think there has been a bit of pushback against the World Book Day fancy dress thing due to cost for parents. Anyway, seems to have been a good day for them. My daughter recited some funny poems for her class.
Sorry yes, these were the books I’ve ordered. The newish covers using Spike’s own art are nicer than the ones I read as a kid, I think.
