currently, you cant get certain financial benefits from the government based on your partner's income, which results in people being stuck in abusive situations because they cant afford to get out of them.

this petition seeks to end partner income tests in welfare payments, which would make it significantly easier for people to get out of DV situations

Please please please. My ex started a six
figure job right around the same time I was
diagnosed with epilepsy. I lost one of my jobs,
my licence, my income halved to about 12k
per year. I had to BEG him to drive me to
work. I had to BEG him to help me with rent
and groceries. I had no other choice because
if I left him I couldn't afford to live alone
anyway, I couldn't get a new job while I was
actively having multiple seizures a day. I was
truly stuck. I'm on my feet now because of
friends who came through for me when he
got bored of me last year.

I didn't qualify for disability, jobseeker or Austudy at all - entirely based on his income

I'm so lucky with the job that kept me, I'd
been there a while and they knew I was a
good employee and they listen. They've been
really patient with me at the moment too
because of the breakup because I've lost
transport due to that.
