TIL In 1890 a political struggle over seating a republican from West Virginia turned so heated it became called the "Battle of the Reed Rules". Speaker Reed ordered the doors barred to prevent a quorum from being denied, though Constantine Kilgore of Texas escaped by kicking a door down.
