TIL that in 1999, PETA, as part of its McCruelty campaign, attempted to distribute bloody Unhappy Meals to young audiences. They also released a comic book in which Ronald McDonald, Grimace, and the Hamburglar unite to kill Birdie's parents, feed them to her unknowingly, then eat her as well.
