TIL the song “Whip It” by Devo, was released in 1980 as a single and not expected to be a hit, but due partly to the bold Mtv video where a man whips clothes off a woman, the song was assumed to be related to masturbation and sadomasochism, which helped it reach number 14 on the Billboard Top 100.
