TIL that during World War II, Japan launched “Kikusui” or “Floating Chrysanthemum,” a campaign using balloon bombs to target the U.S. These bombs aimed to cause damage and instill fear. While most failed, one incident in 1945 resulted in the deaths of six people in Oregon.
