One reason why I doubt the Great Migration to #RedNote won't really last is that people are already getting banned left and right. Red Note is by design trying to remain in a perpetual state of "this app that kids use to do fun and silly things that kids enjoy doing" by eliminating any form of negativity, at the expense of serving as a platform for social justice or becoming a source of general news. It's the early years of Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok if they already had monetization options. That means:
- no shit talking or "jokes" that are just racist stuff
- no obvious criticism of any kind (back-handed compliment might not get flagged)
- no pseudoscience
- no excessive filters
- no content theft or impersonation
- no flaunting of your wealth
- no inflammatory content or rage baiting
- kinda no politics unless it's to speak of openness and collaboration
- no complaining about how this is all fabricated to maintain people happy under their regime
And they are quick to ban and they won't waste time with your appeal. And I'm not even mad. Those are the rules for that specific app and we have so many other outlets to be angry. Red Note is to me an oasis of cute puppies, yummy recipes, cool tips and camping gear only available in China. It will actively push any negativity away from the app and lots of westerners are already complaining that they have lasted less than 24h before getting a ban for seemingly the most minor offenses.
