It started out at about 7:40 PM with our officers helping the @WSP out at a car vs. motorcycle collision that occurred on SR 240 near Horn Rapids. The motorcycle rider was transported for treatment but died due to his injuries. The driver of the car was DUI and booked into jail for Vehicular Homicide. While officers were still working at that scene, other officers responded to assist @WSP and @BCSO at another fatal collision that occurred on SR 224 near E. *** UPDTE: 25-008641 DUI Vehicular Homicide Arrest*** The Richland Police Department has confirmed that the arrested driver of the car involved in the fatal collision on SR 240 near Horn Rapids was an off-duty Washington State Patrol officer. RPD officers were dispatched to assist WSP with the collision, just like we frequently do with other collisions near our jurisdiction. Once it was determined that an off-duty WSP trooper was involved, WSP requested RPD to take over to ensure an independent investigation would be conducted of the collision involving their officer. The trooper was arrested for DUI Vehicular Homicide and she was eventually booked into the Benton County Jail. We have requested that she be held on a 72-hour hold for Vehicular Homicide. The investigation is still underway and the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case when it is complete.
