Doc lovers, :anarchy: narchists, former and current Eastern Europeans, all people interested in not getting bilked by shitbirds socializing losses and privatizing profits!

I mention this doc pretty much weekly. It's the best I've seen since The Corporation and for me it's second only to the Up Series in terms of raw humanity.

Adam Curtis' Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone. See what privatization is actually like, bear witness to the greatest decline of life expectancy in peacetime, see what unrestricted capitalism actually does and how quickly it does it. Fuck it, if you ever even had a doubt that we are the ferengi.

the real actual immediate and long-term danger of right-wing authoritarianism is not death camps or purges for most people. those are certainly on the drawing board and america is better prepared for it than any other nation because of its incredibly developed carceral institutions.

for the folks lucky enough to be acceptable to the human-grinding machine, you have decades of every single institution you don't even realize you depend on being denuded and stripped to the bone.

i've lived through this. i managed to legally emigrate to the u.s. it took the better part of a decade and it's not any better now unless you are very well off.

everything is going to get worse. medical care, food, public health (which already basically doesn't exist), housing, everything.

really and truly, if you want to know what's coming, this is the documentary to watch.

and if you're in the UK, you're in the same boat, too. in fact, lots of the people who got rich during the collapse of the ussr are the same ones doing it to you.
