How many Americans (US born and raised) volunteers fought in Spain against Franco/Fascism in the 1930s? And while the US was "broke" plenty of assistance was provided by the US to Franco. There are even pictures and articles of protests in the US against the support of fascism by family and solidarity networks to those volunteers.

So? People can act freely according to consciousness, not all people are puppets of state politics.

During the US war against #Korea many merchant mariners who were very active union members, decided to skip their work in nearby ports and join the anti-imperialist front as volunteers. Greeks in particular, (about 50% of the merchant marine workforce at the time) discovered that at the same time as a NATO member troops from home were sent to assist the imperialist. Relatives and even brothers in some occasions found themselves fighting against each other.

Little known fact. Australia was involved in the ground war on vietnam early on. After a while the Longshoremen started refusing to load the ships with military material, eventually forcing Australia to withdraw. The SF/Oakland Longshore workers also resisted, and as seen at OccupyOakland where they were teargassed and beaten, still have an Antiwar committee.
