Brilliant! 🤓
amazing!!! Thank you for your work.
very good, just thinking about to move from 2 Google Workspace Accounts to Proton Duo.

If the tentions between EU and USA rise, who knows what happens? Maybe no Android Updates and Playstore anymore? No MS 365? Who knows...
so goodbye. Proton is openly trumpist.
Thank you so much Vivaldi.
Let chat on telegram@Maryrose7079 to catch some fun
why proton? Aren't they the Trumpist one?
Awesome both from you and @protonprivacy

Its great seeing European tech boosting European tech. We are indeed slowly but surely regaining our own digital sovereignty.
could you offer a portable version for users that want to use it on locked devices?
Will this also come to Android version of Vivaldi?
As much as I like using software made in the EU, I noticed ProtonVPN in a negative way. Websites thought I was in Israel. Dnsleaktest.com confirmed my suspicions. It was connecting to servers in Germany that didn't belong to Proton, but to external companies with connections outside the EU... Absolute NOGO
You could have stated that this was ONLY FOR PCs. I only have a smart phone and a Samsung Galaxy tablet.
Thank you so much for the update.

I am curious how the service is funded bc it seems like you offer it for free.
How does Proton or Vivaldi earn money with it? Can you shed some light on this?
Proton VPN for Vivaldi offers a free option with no time limit, without any ads, or trackers, and no bandwidth limits. Users can upgrade to a Proton VPN paid plan to gain access to other features such as faster speeds, additional servers, extra devices, etc. Whether they choose a free or a paid version, they will benefit from the same advanced anti-censorship features. If a user upgrades to Proton VPN Plus, this generates revenue for Proton and Vivaldi.
Funny, as long as you use the render-engine from Big Tech.
Any chance on continuing support for Manifest v2?
look.
I want a browser and a browser only.
Not a Swiss army knife.
Connected nicely on my existing proton vpn account. Well done 👍
For all those who are using political arguments to judge a piece of software: software is not and never will be political. Use credible and verifiable technical arguments :)
Great new feature! I'm a recent Vivaldi convert and you guys are making it very easy not to look back to my old browser 😊 Kämpefint 👏🏻
Why did you choose to impose the extension to your users ? I'm not very happy about that.

Why not asking first if I'd like to install this commercial extension ?
Technically, the extension isn't installed until you click on the VPN button on the Address Bar.
And as with most things in Vivaldi, you can remove it.
This at the very least should be an opt-in process with some better explanation. The current "Here's a new button that does things without stating what will happen" is not good user experience.

And partnering with Proton right now isn't a great choice either.
Great.

I'd love to download that update, but as I'm already a ProtonVPN user, the download ALWAYS fails.

Somewhat ironic that in order to get an update to have ProtonVPN incorporated into Vivaldi, I've got to go naked and turn off my VPN to download the update...
That's not good. We have a few questions.

Which country are you connected to?

Also, if you change countries, does it fail in all of them or just the current one?

Also, do downloads in general fail or just the Vivaldi update download?
Thanks to Vivaldi for replying!
OUTSTANDING!

(A DM has been sent in reply...)
Yeah... please don't do that.
Just as you said it it was waiting for me in the repo. A few clicks and I'm connected.
& @jon Yeah, real bad timing on this one. I'm moving away from Proton because CEO Andy Yen is at best very, very naive and at worst a conservative/MAGA jackass, and the Proton board won't or can't remove him.

It's also very telling that @protonprivacy has decided to end their fediverse participation, directly following Yen's corpofascist comments and the resulting blowback.
as a user of both Vivaldi and Proton, I like this partnership. But given that Vivaldi will now come with a built in VPN, I will soon get notified by IT to stop using Vivaldi on the work laptop. 😑
Great, now that I’ve decided tinier Vivaldi, this happens. Can’t browsers just be browsers?
🤦

Any plans to partner with a VPN not run by Trump supporters? Or is Vivaldi going right wing too?
I love Vivaldi and I love Proton. Great choice!
Thanks, but no thanks.
the same Proton whose CEO came out as a MAGAt?

No, thanks.
@danimoondark Aayy, right after Proton has decided to align themselves with Trump?? 🙁
What about the cost? How will the service be paid for? I think the VPN is cool, and i understand that free to me, isn’t actually free.
Proton VPN for Vivaldi offers a free option with no time limit, without any ads, or trackers, and no bandwidth limits.
If you like the service, but want more you can upgrade to a Proton VPN paid plan to gain access to other features such as faster speeds, additional servers, extra devices, etc. Paying users allow Proton to provide the service for free for those who are new and/or don't need advanced features.
Gotcha. I appreciate the clarification!
I'm not enthusiastic about this partnership given Andy Yen’s recent expression of support for the Trump administration. I cancelled my Proton subscription as a result.
I love Vivaldi. So much, in fact, that I considered becoming an "ambassador." And while I think offering a ready-made free VPN can be a good thing, the timing of this couldn't be much worse given the recent developments with Proton that led myself and many others to wrap up our Proton subscriptions. Whether we like to think otherwise or not, *everything* is political, and I actually love Vivaldi not only because of their excellent product but for the fact they have hardly pretended to be politically "neutral" (and we all know what Desmond Tutu said about those that pursue "neutrality"); Vivaldi have been outspoken about Trump's "Big Tech" friends, AI, and - unlike Proton - are passionate about the Fediverse. So this doesn't seem like a good fit at all.
I was constantly hesitating between Brave and Vivaldi. Being a Proton user and on Linux, let's say that I'll be trying Vivaldi from now on (with all due respect to Brave :)
Doesn't work in Russia(((
how can I turn it off? I don’t want protonvpn. I used to like proton, but i’m transitioning out of their products since the board of directors is quiet about the online behavior of their ceo. Also, they make misleading about their services.
There's a setting for enabling/disabling the feature in Settings > Privacy and Security.
thank you! I went ahead and disabled it.
this would have landed better had Proton not already come out as pro-fascism. No thanks.
我更新了之后,点击 Proton VPN,显示“翻译失败,无法安装扩展”。我想知道应该如何能够使用它?
Another good reason to use Vivaldi (until adblock and tracking extensions get blocked)!
I wish Vivaldi would add a invisible/minimal border mode like Arc, Zen or Orion browsers. This is one thing I can’t figure out how to customize in Vivaldi.
A question about #browserextension|s: I heard from somewhere that excessive installation of browser extension alleviates browser fingerprinting.

Therefore, is the #ProtonVPN in #Vivaldi circumventing this issue, since it is built-in?

Similar to how the Brave browser circumvents the need of uBlock-origin due to incorporating a strong blocker on its own?
