#Pixelfed and Mastodon are both part of the Fediverse, which means you can follow Pixelfed accounts from Mastodon and Mastodon accounts from Pixelfed.

For example @Iancylkowski is a Pixelfed account but you can follow it and interact with its posts within Mastodon by just clicking on it. You can see what this account looks like on its own server at https://pixelfed.social/Iancylkowski

There are many different kinds of server on here, and they connect together to form a single network called the Fediverse.
p.s. A number of people asking why they might choose #Pixelfed instead of Mastodon if you can follow each other's accounts.

Pixelfed is based around images and has image-centric features that Mastodon doesn't:

Pixelfed lets you post up to 12 images per post, Mastodon only lets you post 4.

Pixelfed has 24 hour self-destructing posts ("stories")

Pixelfed has image galleries ("collections")

Pixelfed lets you add licences, locations, people tagged etc

Pixelfed has effects & cropping filters

There's no reason you can't have one (or more) of each type of account.* It might be a good idea.

I suggest that if you're new to this whole Mastodon/Fediverse thing you try one and get comfortable with it before trying out another.

* I do!
I'm still trying to figure out how the two of them interact... And I'm still trying to figure out the Fediverse 😵‍💫
It is a bit confusing, especially if you're used to services where everything is in one place.

For whatever it is worth, I've tried to do a non-technical article about the Fediverse at https://fedi.tips/what-is-mastodon-what-is-the-fediverse

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Awesome, thanks!!
and pixelfed has alt text. Please use it.
Apparently, comments under the Pixelfed posts cannot be accessed from Mastodon clients.
They should be visible if the comment has federated to your server. Has this happened to you?
Currently, I don't see any comments under posts from pixelfed.social on our instance.

May be there is a problem with how URL are handled.
If I search https://pixelfed.social/p/Iancylkowski/784499116549983348 on this instance, I don't find the post (while the post is displayed under @Iancylkowski's profile !)…

But if I search for https://mastodon.mg/@Iancylkowski@pixelfed.social/113822660301873568, I find the post…

Can confirm, I can't make the post appear from that pixelfed.social URL either.

Are you able to make a post from my Pixelfed account appear on your server? Here is the URL:

https://pixey.org/i/web/post/787023742106559695

This should work, it works on mine.

I am wondering if pixelfed.social is using the wrong format for URLs or has something otherwise broken on it. My account is on a different server.

Yes, I can find the post, either under https://pixey.org/i/web/post/787023742106559695
or under https://pixey.org/p/PixelfedHelp/787023742106559695
Okay... it looks like there's something wrong at pixelfed.social then. I think they seem to be using the old format for posts, I'm not sure why.
