“Who here remembers that Peter Dutton was once health minister?
Don’t worry if you don’t. Events of the week suggest that he doesn’t seem to, either.” #AusPol

Dutton has backed more funding to women’s health. But the political record is worth revisiting

I remember hearing that he was THE worst Health Minister...and that's saying something for the Libs. Van would know that Libs & Nats are given portfolios as rewards for loyalty - not because they show aptitude for the job (e.g. Treasurer).
He was woeful, coz... sit down coz this might shock you... skyfairy ideology, eg, he went after abortion with a vengeance. Such an all-time arsehole. I also still recall the time when he was Oppo Health spokescreep, & turned up very late for a public debate with the estimable Nicola Roxon. Being a vastly greater intellect than him, & being good to boot with wit & words, she sarcastically mocked him, which lead to him angrily swearing at her under his breath... caught on mic, ofc. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, thank goodness the bastard is OUT.
I'm lying down, and not shocked, startled, or surprised. He's always struck me as an eminently smitable Sunday Morning Christian. #ReligionIsPoison @feather1952
I just discovered he doesn't attend church. He has faith in his own instinct🤦‍♀️ So, he's a purely uniformed arsehole. Figures.🙄👎 @feather1952
i do remember greg-rhymes-with as absolutely the most unhelpful health minister in the history of western democracy (which by definition, of course, excludes USA). but spot on, van badham, i have no recollection of dutton as health minister.

the problem with having money earmarked for women’s health is it normalises making such expenditure exceptional.

“elf is elf” I say, and health care is a right or it is not.

there should be no gold medals for doing the right thing.

You raise a very important point here.

A hallmark of our society is people wishing to be praised for just doing their job.

Politicians are always telling us how *hard* they're working, how they have a laser like focus on something or other.

Using special provisions for women's health as an election promise is a stark admission of failure.

It's a bit like the consumer product that is marketed as 'New & Improved'. The obvious inference is that the previous version was Old & Inadequate.

This is a pretty good description of Cuddles.
Speaking of: how is that pledge to do more about endometriosis going? I know Scummo made it, but it would be nice to know Elbow didn't shelve it.
I remember.

“In a survey of 1100 readers of Australian Doctor magazine, 46 per cent said Dutton was the worst health minister in thirty-five years. (The health minister thirty-five years earlier was Ralph Hunt, who oversaw the Fraser government’s dismantling of Labor’s earlier medical insurance scheme, Medibank.)”
