Thank you Richard Barnes for this, great work

“the CIS does not meet the criterion of independence from, and non-alignment with, political parties or other institutions, which is expected of policy institutes of which the Reserve Bank Australia has corporate membership.

It might be thought that a $20,000 per annum association is trivial. But, as in many areas of politics and public policy, such arrangements often act as tacit signals of shared interests and reciprocal influence. The RBA’s association with the CIS is effectively an endorsement of it.“

Yep ... I have been whining for decades how no think tank members should be on the RBA ... and most of the RBA are members of CIS ... the rest are 'bankers' ... so well stacked.
And once upon a time their membership was declared but after complaints of obvious and blatant bias, their affiliations are now hidden.

Fact is, no Think Tanks can be considered independent simply because they are made up of like minded people ... and the CIS is made up of Far Right Conservatives ... It's a Liberal Party 'idea generator'.

And from my view the proof the RBA supports Liberal Governments is shown by their history over the past quarter century ... and especially over the past decade where it's been Mates Rates all the way.

And that $20,000 pa association is not trivial as it gives kudos ... and power ...
