Seems the United States is sliding inexorably towards civil war unless some powerful internal force intervenes (which itself creates a wholly different nightmare scenario).

And not a two sided conflict, a multifaceted shitshow with individuals, districts, whole states out for themselves as a paralysed federal govt rages at itself above them.

Hope the Australian government has wargamed the possibility, or at least considered it, and planned the contingencies.Status quo is unsustainable and something is going to break.

Trump no doubt thinks he's the height of clever, tearing up the 'rule of law' and making a 'might is right' play.

Seems to have missed the fundamental that 'rule of law' is what underpins a presidency. Without it, he's just a decaying old man with a following and enemies, and those enemies are looking increasingly pissed.

Our "great & powerful friend" is not our friend and probably won't be great & powerful for much longer. I've long thought that Australia needs to seek other allegiances (as distinct from alliances).

Originally, I thought of an Indo-Pacific Commonwealth. Then it occurred to me that we already have a Commonwealth that isn't doing very much:

Maybe we could build on that.
